Pinoy Life & Their take on Billy Wirth's Film at Sundance

Pinoy Life and Their Take On Sundance & MacArthur Park

This article is from Pinoy Life.com, it was started in 1997 by three friends, that thought it would be a good idea to put together a Filipino American website that focused on the "gen-x" crowd. Being internet limited they had noticed that back then, there were not many Filipino American websites that truly repesented the feelings and opinions of the young Pinoy's and Pinay's in the US, so they put this site together.

This is an except from their 4 day Journal of Sundance and the films they viewed. I would reccommend fans and viewers check out the site of these very gifted young men. Moonie was kind enough to share their photos and his storyline from MacArthur Park. We think it will give fans and readers a young and gen-x view of MacArthur Park from non Billy Wirth fans or fanclub members, and certainly not paid professional opinions.

Hi Max, Feel free to use any of the photos on your site. I did write something about MP on my site in the Sundance Journal Day 2 page.

"Elvin and I met up with Rex at the Eccles theater to watch MacArthur Park. The only reason why I bought tickets to this movie is because I live near MacArthur Park in L.A. I had no idea what the movie was about.

I then found out that it was a narrative film about a man trying to survive the drug and crime culture of the park. It was directed by Billy Wirth who was one of the vampires in the movie "The Lost Boys" and he was also a contestant on American Gladiators.

What was really cool was that the producer of the film was a Pinay named Maricel Pagulayan.

As for the film itself, it blew me away. The cast was full of pretty well known actors including Thomas Jefferson Byrd, former SNL player Ellen Cleghorne, David Faustino a.k.a. Bud Bundy, Sticky Fingaz from Onyx, B-Real from Cypress Hill, Lori Petty, Sydney Tamia Poitier, Tami Akbar-Anderson from MTV's The Real World Los Angeles and the list goes on.

As for the film itself, it was probably one of the most powerful films about drug abuse that I've seen in a long time. I hope this movie gets a distributer and if it does, please visit a local theater to check it out. "

Most of my friends thought the film was cool.
Take care and cool site you have there!
Moonie

MacArthur Park producer Maricel Pagulayan talks about her film after the friday morning screening at the Eccles Theatre.
MacArthur Park lead actor Thomas Jefferson Byrd talk to audience members after screening.
MacArthur Park director Billy Wirth also on hand to talk to audience members. And yes it is the same Billy Wirth that played a vampire in Lost Boys.
