Centering around an eclectic group of thirty-something friends, "Relax...It's Just Sex" is the story of struggling gay playwright VINCEY SAURIS (Mitchell Anderson) is looking for a boyfriend. He complains to TARA RICOTTO (Jennifer Tilly), the sexy resident den mother about this disparaging lack of romance in his life, but she's preoccupied with trying to get pregnant with her boyfriend GUS ROGERO (Timothy Paul Perez), who's not sure he is ready to settle down.

Longtime lesbian couple SARINA CLASSER (Cynda Williams) and MEGAN PILLSBURY (Serena Scott Thomas) are in the midst of a break-up, following Megan's return from a business trip where she had an affair with Sarina's second cousin JERED (Billy Wirth). When ROBIN (Lori Petty) enters the picture, she offers Sarina a chance for real love, and the two become romantically involved.

Vincey brings BUZZ WAGNER (T.C. Carson), an outspoken artist new to the group, to a dinner party, where Gus' brother JAVI ROGERO (Eddie Garcia) announces he's HIV positive. Buzz launches into a tirade of controversial opinions about AIDS, setting off a heated discussion. Before long, it's Javi and Buzz who have begun a relationship, while Vincey is still left alone.

When a violent gay-bashing incident with Vincey and Javi occurs, an upset Vincey is forced to take leave from the group. And as Tara's personal crisis threatens to unravel all that she has strived to accomplish, it is the love of the friends in the group that enables her, Vincey and everyone else, to go on.
